Key Stage 4 course selection process

We welcome Year 9 parents, carers and students to the Key Stage 4 course selection process at Blackfen School. This year, school leaders, subject leaders and teachers look forward to supporting Year 9 students and their families in the selection of Key Stage 4 qualifications that will nurture students’ academic aspirations for Key Stage 5 and beyond. 
We trust that the guidance on this page of the website will support your understanding of the courses on offer and enable you to be fully involved in the selection process. All the letters sent home to Year 9 families and special Assembly presentations will be listed under the heading ‘Important documents’. 

Key dates, events and deadlines for Year 9 parents, carers and students:

November – December 2025
•    Students: Attend Year 9 Information Assembly (1) – Week beginning 17.11.25
•    Parents/Carers: Please see the Year 9 Assembly presentation available on the school website
•    Students: Receive guidance booklet ‘Year 9 preparation for Key Stage 4 course selection’
•    Students/Parents/Carers: Complete specified pages in the guidance booklet
•    Students/Parents/Carers: Log into ‘Unifrog’ with students to browse education and career options

January – March 2026
•    Students: Attend small-group careers interviews in school with ‘Prospects Education’ careers adviser
•    Students: Attend Year 9 Information Assembly (2) - ‘Key Stage 4 course selection: what’s on offer?’
•    Students/Parents/Carers: Please see Year 9 Assembly presentation available on the school website
•    Students: Attend Key Stage 4 course selection Spotlights – Mini meetings about specific courses
•    Students/Parents/Carers: Attend Year 9 Information Evening - 5.2.26 about the Key Stage 4 course selection process
•    Students/Parents/Carers: Attend Year 9 Parents Evening – 26.2.26

March 2026
•    Parents/Carers: Wednesday 4th March 2026 (last date) - Submit on-line course selection form
•    Students: Week beginning 11.3.26 - Interviews in school with a member of the Leadership Team to confirm course selection
