Challenge day raises disability awareness
A visit from Paralympian Sarah McPhee started off a superb day of activities for Year 8 students on our latest challenge day. Sarah who was in Team GB basketball gave the students a fascinating account of her journey up to London 2012 and beyond.
Working in pairs, students then took the challenge of being visually impaired while navigating the school, complete with blindfolds or dark glasses and white sticks. Activities also included wheelchair basketball and blind football.
Year 9 spent Challenge Day studying the Holocaust. They heard from Holocaust survivor, Eve Kugler and the humbling history of her family's struggle to remain together and alive. They also researched the unsung heros of the holocaust; those who documented events and those who risked their lives to aid communication between famillies.
Year 7 made business plans for chocolate boxes and got to eat chocolate too.
With work experience fortnight now in full flow, Year 10 had a last chance re-cap from the Ra-Ra Theatre Company in a fun-filled performance entitled "The WEX factor". Tips and hints for interviews and good workplace conduct and how to avoid common mistakes were all displayed in a comedy way to help Year 10 on their way into the world of work until the end of this term.
