Subjects I studied: A Level: English, Psychology, Business Studies and EPQ.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I attended University, studying Business and achieved a First Class degree. I wanted to begin my teacher training and I worked here at Blackfen within the Sixth Form Study Centre for a year. I then completed my PGCE at UCL Institute of Education and now I teach Business studies full time at Blackfen.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: How much of a close family it felt like. Especially in terms of all the support with uni, jobs and leaving sixth form. The trips were obviously a highlight too!

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I am now a Security Manager in the investment banking sector.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: Everything.

 

Rebecca Castle

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2016

Subjects I studied: Media, Ict, Law, History, French, Art, Maths, English and Science.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form? I have completed a business administration apprenticeship with ITV.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form? Completing my sixth form classes; Media, ICT and Law and getting distinction stars in all.

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2014

Subjects I studied: Media Studies, Sociology, and Politics.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: After attending Blackfen School Sixth form for 1 year I decided to not continue to complete my A2 exams. I applied for an apprenticeship in Digital Marketing and completed 16 months at an Events Management company. Three years on, I am now working as a Marketing Executive at NET-A-PORTER -  one of the world's biggest fashion retailers.

Subjects I studied: I studied Business, Law and Psychology at Blackfen sixth form.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: Since leaving sixth form, I went on to study business management where I achieved a first class degree with honours. I have also achieved a distinction diploma in professional experience by working for Enterprise rent-a-car and have now moved on to a full time banking role with Santander.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: My fondest memories at the sixth form was making life time friends and enjoying the two years I spent there in a friendly and fun environment.

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2010

Subjects I taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: Taught History for 18 years, plus when a newbie I was lumbered/blessed with teaching Geography, English and Drama in my first couple of years too!

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: Finally escaped to the country! Also while at Blackfen I wrote some books for teachers and wrote a column for the TES. Since leaving I have written second editions of two of the books and one has been published in Indonesian! Now teaching in Suffolk and occasionally having freelance articles in various educational publications. I left State education in 2016 and now work at the Royal Hospital School as Head of History and Politics.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: The buzz of the 1992-8 era when the school started improving results and changed its attitude to the pupils-believing they should and could achieve. And the bunch of characters I had in any of my forms as form tutor, and especially my first form there 1992-96. The comedy double act with Dr V in the staff panto. A seagull 'decorating' Mr Scambler at the top of Rochester castle on a Y7 trip. And the kindness of colleagues.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: HNC business studies. Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (Graduate) Head of Procurement, Head of Contracts & Performance NHS. Mother!

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: Times in the common room,  Speech day and being Head Girl.

 

 Jonathan Lockyer

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2008

Subjects I studied: A-Level Law, Psychology, Maths, A/S Applied ICT.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: After completing a Law Degree at the University of Westminster, and the Legal Practice Course at City University, London, I now work full time as a police officer for the Metropolitan Police Service.

Subjects I studied: AS level Religious Studies A level Law, Sociology and Media.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I have qualified as a nursery nurse and have been doing the job for 4 years now. I also spent a summer working in Greece.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: Spending lunchtimes with a big group of friends at a friend’s house across the road and the way the teachers were able to have a laugh and not stay serious all the time, especially Miss Smith!

Subjects I studied: AS English literature A level Psychology A Level ICT A Level French Extended Project.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: Since leaving sixth form I have gone on to graduate with a 2:1 honours degree in Psychology, as well as completing a Level 3 in childcare and my Level 1 British sign language. After my degree, I worked in a baby nursery and I am now working in a local primary school as a speech and language therapy assistant supporting children with speech and language needs. I am currently in the process of applying to go back to uni to do my masters in speech & language therapy!

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: All of it! - Being on the leadership team. - The teachers. - The last day, and watching the teachers perform their goodbye rap! I miss it so much!

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I went on to work at several shops learning new skills, I have not been near a nursery since.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I am currently a student paramedic at Canterbury Christchurch University. I'm on placement at the moment on the ambulances in the south east of Kent area.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: Leaving with the grades I achieved.

Tracy Ann Strevens

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 1987

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: The rather quaintly named 'Junior Secretary' course!

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: As you might expect, when I left I was qualified as a clerical secretary, but have had a myriad of jobs since including Fire Fighter, Florist and Fork Lift Truck Driver! I am a writer now though, publishing historical factual books under the pen name 'Summer Strevens'. Just completed my third book focusing on 18th-century female poisoners.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: None of my teachers could ever pronounce my surname correctly - when the register was called, the class room would ring to the cries of my classmates shouting the correct pronunciation! That and Mrs Cammish's determination to turn out girls who would be 'a credit to any office', and Headmistress Mrs Meagher's impeccable French Pleat hair-do!! Still convinced she could probably breathe fire...!

Louise Brett (nee Lynch)

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2005

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: English literature, Health and Social Care, RS, Social Science Citizenship.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I studied theology at bible college in Edinburgh and I have now been working for the Trinidadian Bible society in London for 8 and a half years. I’ve been married to Daniel for 2 and half years.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: Being with my friends and having birthday parties in RS! My favourite teacher was Sonya Edwards.

 

Joanna Whelan

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 1993

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: Childcare, Information, Design &Technology and Home Economics.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I have been working in childcare for the last 24 years. I achieved my degree in management and I am a nursery manager in an independent nursery which I love!

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: I used to love science with Mr Briggs, and I remember my form tutor -  Madame Stuart, telling me off one day because my bow in my hair was too big, I think one of the words she used was ‘ridiculous!’

Emily Ward

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2011

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: ICT, Business Studies, Psychology and Maths.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I went to the University of Greenwich and gained a first class degree in BSc (Hons) Computing. I have worked for a large market research company supporting their internal and external IT. I am currently working at print management company, running their IT helpdesk.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: Fun teachers, friends, exciting and interactive lessons, the last day staff show and how much fun and games there were in the Common Room!

 

Kate Stephenson

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2002

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: NVQ in business studies.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I used my sixth form skills to work in offices in London, until I moved up to Derbyshire, in a picturesque village outside Bakewell. I currently work in a busy family run theme park.

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: I studied Business, Health and Social Care and History.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: Since leaving Blackfen sixth form, I have started a degree in construction management and have obtained a site management role with one of the biggest developers in the UK whilst studying for my degree.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: My Health and Social Care lessons and what a great teacher Miss Morris is.

 

Claudia Stachini

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2009

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: Law, Psychology and Graphic Art.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I went on to obtain a Law degree at Canterbury Christ Church University and then a post graduate diploma in Legal Practice. I have been working in Law for the past 5 years and am now a trainee Solicitor. I will be a fully qualified lawyer in 2020.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: The teachers - they were funny, down to earth and really engaging.

 

Courtney Corcoran

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2017

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: I studied Government & Politics, Sociology A-Levels and Media BTEC.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: Since leaving Blackfen, I have started a level 3 business administrator civil service apprenticeship in Downing Street which has been an amazing experience.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: My fondest memories of Blackfen would be my politics lessons with Mrs Blatch as they inspired me to choose politics as a career path.

 

Alice Brooks

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2012

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: BTEC Level 2 Childcare.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I have achieved great experience with children  from 5 months to 5 years. I have been at a Nursery for 6 years. I achieved a qualification in Level 2 and Level 3 NVQ Childcare.
On the 16th March 2018, I will be taking my next adventure and my dream job and I shall be working abroad.
My first season is going to be in Tenerife with the company TUI and this is where I shall be working in a nursery in Sensatori Resort.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: Being with my friends.

 

 

Danni Foley

Year leaving Blackfen Sixth Form: 2015

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen Sixth Form: History, ICT & Graphic Art
(Music Technology at AS).

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen Sixth Form?: I went to study a BA (Hons) in Computer Animation Arts (skillset accredited!) at UCA, I'm currently heading towards graduating with a 1st or 2:1. I've also been an ambassador and union member for the university throughout my time there, and I'm currently hoping to make the course's selection for the New Designers business centre in July to showcase my work to industry members for future career prospects. I'm hoping to achieve a lot more within the next year!

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen Sixth Form?: Probably my time there and meeting new people during  who still remain close friends.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: After graduating with a first class honours degree in mathematics from the University of Portsmouth, I started my masters in data analytics.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: My fondest memories are being with my friends in free periods.

 

Lucy Holland

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen School: A Level: History, Sociology, Business, EPQ.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: In June 2018 I graduated from Cambridge University following a successful time studying History alongside rowing for my College’s women’s boat and shooting archery for the university’s beginner’s team.
Having spent a short time working on a digitisation project in my College’s archives, I have now taken up a role in Cambridge University’s Admissions Office working on admissions policy and outreach. Alongside this, I am studying part-time for my second undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences.

 

Richard Taylor

Subjects I studied at Blackfen School: Psychology (A), Law (B) and History (C).

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: In my time since leaving the sixth form, I have written articles for national news publishers, worked and campaigned tirelessly for mental health charities, won a Mind Media Award for a documentary I featured in, consulted for media outlets all over the world and have been back to the sixth form to talk to the next generation of students about their mental health. I have achieved all of these things and more without having ever attended university or attaining a degree.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: Going to the cafe on my frees for hash browns, being 'crowned' Head Boy by my peers and the staff, the friends I made, the laughs we had, Psychology lessons with Smith and Purbrick (the best teachers) and the thrill of finding a parking space in the morning, even though I lived close enough to walk (if you've got it, flaunt it)!

Lucy Portman

Subjects I studied Blackfen School: I studied History, Law and Psychology at A Level and studied Sociology for one year at AS Level.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: I have just completed a degree in BSc Psychology with a 2:1. I am now waiting to start my masters in Forensic Psychology in September.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: The people that I met at Blackfen will always be the best part of my school experience, I made some great friends for life and had some incredible teachers who have helped shape who I am today and helped me along my journey. I can honestly say I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have today without their constant support and guidance.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: I have just completed my undergraduate degree in Creative and Professional Writing BA (Hons) and will be graduating with a 2:1 In September.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: My fondest memory of Blackfen was performing in the school production of Oliver, playing the role of Fagin. It was the most amazing experience and gave me the confidence to believe in myself.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: I work for a veterinary clinic and am in my second year of veterinary nursing.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: Great teachers, lessons and friends.

 

Megan La Roche

Year leaving Blackfen School: 2016

Subjects I studied at Blackfen School: A levels History, Psychology and Photography.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: After sixth form I floated through a few office jobs but I didn't think it was for me. So I didn't something completely different and went into a NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical science and a level 2 in pharmacy services. I studied for just under two years and I'm now a practising Pharmacy Technician in Hayshine Pharmacy in Welling. I've also got really interested in campaigning for mental health. In 2018 I completed an online course and achieved a TQUK level 2 in awareness of mental health and in June 2019 I became a qualified mental health first aider. At my current workplace I'm working alongside Mind in Bexley to make services more accessible and known to people in the local area.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: My best bit of sixth form was being with my friends all the time, studying different things and especially the year 13 trip to Poland!

 

Lisa Kemp

Year leaving Blackfen School: 1999

Subjects I studied at Blackfen School: For GCSE I studied History, Business Studies and Food Technology as well as the mandatory classes.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: Since Blackfen, I spent 5 years working in the Solicitors office of HMRC, moved to work in Business Continuity at Barclays for 12 year and assisted in moving them from a Business Continuity Programme to Business Resilience. For the last 2 years I have been Business Resilience Lead at Direct Line Group, implementing new standards and processes to align to enhanced regulatory requirements.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: When I think back to my time at Blackfen I always remember the great friends I made and the wonderful teachers. Mr WD for History and Mr Morrell for Biology particularly. The teachers employed by Blackfen really cared and made learning fun. I really wouldn't be where I am had it not been for them.

Blackfen left a lasting impression with me and this resulted in my eldest daughter starting Blackfen in 2017 and my youngest is due to start September 2019.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: Assemblies in the common room.

Katie Waller

Year leaving Blackfen School: 2015

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen School: GCSEs which included Citizenship and dance.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: Since leaving Blackfen school I went on to college where I achieved my Level 2 early years. I then went on to working at a nursery where I achieved my Level 3 in childcare. While working at a nursery I have progressed from a Early years practitioner, to a baby room leader and now also a SENCO.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: The Christmas Panto and people that I met.

 Hannah Davis

Year leaving Blackfen School: 2016

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen School: BTEC Ict, Media Studies and BTEC Business.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: I have completed a law degree at the University of Winchester and I'll be graduating in October 2019. Undertaking the legal practice course in September 2019, to become a trainee solicitor at the University of Law in Exeter.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: The Christmas Pantos.

 

 

 Jessica Allam

Year leaving Blackfen School: 2016

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen School: A-Level Geography, Psychology, Biology EPQ and AS-Level Business.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: Since leaving Blackfen, I completed a 2 year, level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management at Hadlow college gaining a distinction*. I then moved to St Austell in Cornwall to complete my first year of a BSc in Applied Zoology and Conservation at Cornwall College Newquay. Alongside the course I took on a job at Penrice Academy as an Animal technician on their school farm.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: The awesome teachers and friends who pulled me through the two years! It was an amazing experience and even though I took a very different route after year 13, I wouldn’t change going to blackfen sixth form!

 

Chloe Fisher

Subjects I studied at Blackfen School: A Levels: History, Law and ICT

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: After a hard and long training process I am now a Police Constable. I am a response officer in Lewisham responding to 999 calls.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: I loved the relationships I made with the teachers who helped me through my time at Blackfen; Ms Terry, Ms Morris, Mr Neil etc. I am forever grateful for everything they did for me at Blackfen and can never thank them enough. My lessons with them will never be forgotten... and of course being head girl was also a great achievement.

 

Alison Morris

Year leaving Blackfen School: 2000

Subjects I studied at Blackfen School: GCSE: English, Maths, Double Science, French, RE, Music and History.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: I went to Townley to complete my A levels and then went on to university to gain a BSc 2:1 (Hons) in Psychology Sociology. I then moved to Southampton to train as a nurse. I completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Nursing there, moved back and now work as a Nurse Practitioner locally.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: The teachers. You don’t appreciate at the time how much they put in to your learning and achieving. They encouraged me to move to Townley for my A Levels as at the time Blackfen didn’t offer the subjects I wanted to take. Look what I managed I achieved with their help!

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: After studying at Blackfen School for Girls for 7 years, I went to the University of Kent where I studied Politics and International relations.
After a change in career paths I worked at Northern and Shell Media for the Daily Express Newspaper where I completed an Executive PA Diploma.
I now work as a Senior Executive Assistant and Communications Manager for a leading UK specialist private equity real estate fund manager.
I am married and have 2 beautiful daughters who inspire me every day.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: I have many fond memories of my time at Blackfen, all my teachers from across the years, the buzz of the classrooms and the ample amounts of fun I had with my friends at play times.
I progressed so much at Blackfen starting as a tiny year 7 student, struggling with grades (and the only one from my Primary School) and I left a confident individual with the world at my feet and lifelong friends.

 

Hayley Middleton

Subjects I studied at Blackfen School: Childcare, Sociology, Business and the EPQ.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: I left sixth form with a place at Canterbury Christ Church University to study Early Childhood Studies, however after six months I decided it wasn’t for me! I left uni and went back to my part time job where I discovered my passion for HR.
Not long after I started an apprenticeship in HR and am not officially CIPD Level 3 Certificate Human Resource Practice Qualified!
I went on to secure a full time position at London South East Colleges, where I’m now waiting to take on my CIPD Level 5!

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: I absolutely loved school! At the time I didn’t realise how great it really was, but looking back I made some of the best memories of my life at school.

 

 

Jake Nebel

Year leaving Blackfen School: 2014

Subjects I studied at Blackfen School: History, Psychology, Sociology & Applied Science.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: Since leaving Blackfen I have achieved my BSc in Forensic Science with Criminology. I worked in the USA in the summers of 2016 and 2017 at a summer camp as a counsellor. Since June 2018 I have been working at the UK’s largest provider of Forensics as Forensic Toxicologist. I have provided evidence for countless cases both volume and serious crimes as well as the occasional expert witness testimony at court.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: Meeting new people and seeing old friends.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: I went on the to study History and Politics at Goldsmiths University. I am now a barrister clerk for a top set of chambers.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: There are too many!

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen School: BTEC Public Services, Work Skills and Law and Legal.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: I only stayed at sixth form for 1 year. I went onto do an apprenticeship in Support Teaching and Learning in Schools and became a fully qualified Primary Teaching Assistant, gained numerous additional training and worked in a Primary School for 2 years. However, I moved to Plymouth where I am now currently doing a Level 3 Access to Nursing course. Next year pending interview I will be starting a Midwifery degree at Plymouth University.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: Being in my group and all the memories we made and the Disneyland trip.

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen School: Business, Hospitality and Media.

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: Since leaving Blackfen I went straight into completing a level 3 NVQ housing practice apprenticeship for a year within Southwark council, after my year I was offered the opportunity to complete a level 4 business management and administration apprenticeship which I completed in August. I was then offered a job at London and quadrant housing as a technical assistant which is the role I am in now.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: Making lots of friends and memories throughout the years (who I am still friends with now) and definitely prom!

Subjects I studied/taught at Blackfen School: Business Studies A-Level, Sociology A-Level and ICT A-Level

What have you achieved since leaving Blackfen School?: Since leaving Blackfen I have completed an apprenticeship qualification at IG Group ( the biggest online trading company in the world, as well as passing CISI Compliance exams. This has enabled me to become a Compliance Analyst.

What are your fondest memories of Blackfen School?: Sixth form common room and Sociology lessons with Miss Smith.
