Raising aspirations - releasing potential

Discover 2018

Discover 2018 is happening again this year on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th July! This event is for all students in Years 7, 8 and 9 and we hope it will be a really enjoyable end to the year for our students. Discover is all about getting students thinking about their future and some of the options available to them and raising their aspirations. It's an opportunity for our students to develop as well-rounded individuals as they experience new things and learn new skills. Lots of the activities on offer are linked to future careers and college courses that students may be interested in pursuing.

There are around 40 activities which students can choose from which fall into three categories. Most students will be doing one activity from each category over the two days.

  • Look to your future
  • Learn a new skill
  • Experience something new

Discover assemblies are taking place during the week of 8th - 11th May where students will be finding out about all the activities which are available this year and how they can sign up. Students will be given their preference form during this assembly where they are able to indicate which activities and trips they are most interested in taking part in. Students will need to select at least 5 activities from 'Look to your future' and 'Learn a new skill' and rank them in preference order. They can also choose as many activities from 'Experience something new', which are external visits, if they wish.

Completed forms can be handed into the School Office from Monday 14th May at break time. Activities will be allocated on a first come first served basis and student preferences will be taken into consideration as much as possible. The deadline for returning forms is Thursday 17th May.
