Why study this subject:

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Performance offers students a chance to explore specific pathways in Dance and Musical Theatre. The students can choose the pathway that suits their specialism in either Dance or Musical Theatre. Students will improve their skills and techniques in all areas, through workshops and rehearsals using the body and their creative and intellectual skills in order to interpret performance material and communicate to an audience.  These will be the tools to success. External and internal performance opportunities will be widely available for all students studying the course and students will attend compulsory out of lesson rehearsal and performance sessions to meet the requirements of the specification.

Units:

Dance Pathway (5 Units Total)

(2 Core Units)

Unit 3- Group Performance Workshop (external)

Learners explore and integrate creative, physical and vocal skills and techniques, working collaboratively to create a performance in response to a given stimulus.

Unit 34- Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance

Learners explore technical performance skills with a focus on developing skills and techniques in at least two performance styles.

(3 Optional Units)

Classical Ballet Technique, Tap Dance Technique, Jazz Dance Technique, Street Dance Technique, Contemporary Dance Technique, Healthy Dancer, Choreography for Live Performance, Improvisation, Movement in Performance.

 

Musical Theatre Pathway (5 Units Total)

(3 Core Units)

Unit 3- Group Performance Workshop (external)

Learners explore and integrate creative, physical and vocal skills and techniques, working collaboratively to create a performance in response to a given stimulus.

Unit 27- Musical Theatre Techniques

Learners explore musical theatre techniques with a focus on developing skills in a range of performance styles.

Unit 34- Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance

Learners explore technical performance skills with a focus on developing skills and techniques in at least two performance styles.

(2 Optional Units)

Tap Dance Technique, Jazz Dance Technique, Street Dance Technique, Contemporary Dance Technique, Choreography for Live Performance, Acting Styles, Developing the Voice for Performance, Singing Techniques for Performers

 

How will I be assessed: 

Students will be assessed through a range of vocational assessments– both practical and written, enabling them to showcase their individual learning and achievements to best effect.

Using a combination of assessment styles gives students confidence they can apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace – and have the study skills to continue learning on higher education courses and throughout their career.

Future course and possible careers:

A BTEC qualification opens many doors to the future such as going on to study in higher education or to taking a more vocational route and going into freelance teaching work or performance work. The BTEC qualifications have been designed to meet the needs of employers and higher education training routes.
