Blackfen School is a progressive and vibrant learning community that focuses on raising the aspirations and releasing the potential of every young person in our care. In 2019, 60% of students in year 11 achieved five or more GCSE 9-4 grades, including at least a 4 in English and a 4 in Mathematics. Our Progress 8 score was 0.018. At A level in 2019, 96% of the grades were A*-E with 30% at A*-B and 63% at A*-C. Similarly, high levels were achieved in Level 3 BTEC qualifications.
Under the arrangements for Summer 2021 examinations, students in Years 11 and 13 continued to make very good progress.
Our flourishing Sixth Form offers a wide range of courses at AS and A2 level, as well as vocational level 2 and 3 courses.
We are looking to appoint an experienced and pro-active Senior Science Laboratory Technician to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will be required to organise and supervise a team of three technicians as well as supporting teachers in the preparation of GCSE and A’ Level lessons.
Candidates must possess particular expertise in Chemistry, with knowledge of Biology or Physics, as part of our Science Department. Ambition for excellence, a passion for student achievement and the desire to develop professional skills within a supportive learning community will characterise applications for this post.
The successful candidate will ideally have at least a level 3 qualification in a Science based subject and have knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH training.
You will provide technical advice on Health & Safety issues and will ensure all Health & Safety regulations and Codes of Practice are observed at all times.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
